Our soil is under pressure. 60-70 % of the soil ecosystems in the EU are in poor condition. This has led the European Commission in 2023 to present a soil health law, with the goal of ensuring that all soil is in good condition by 2050. Soil health is extremely important, not least because of:

Food safety: Healthy soil is the foundation of the world’s food production. Most of the food we eat – such as rice, grains, and vegetables – depends on fertile soil. In addition, many plants are used in the production of important commodities such as medicines, biofuels, and building materials.
Carbon storage: The Earth captures about 20 % percent of global CO2 emissions (sourceThis makes it a key player in the fight against climate change.
Climate adaptation: Good soil health dampens the effects of extreme weather conditions such as floods and droughts by retaining water and reducing the risk of soil erosion.
Ecosystem servicesThe Earth cleans the air we breathe, the water we drink, and supports biodiversity – which in turn ensures robust food systems.

Agregator's contribution to better soil health

Several companies at Aggrator are developing innovative solutions for sustainable land management:

WastechWastech collects food waste from businesses and uses a circular fermentation process to convert the waste into liquid fertilizer and soil.
Agrisenze: The company has developed sensors that provide farmers with precise information about the nitrate levels in the soil, for optimized fertilizer use and reduced runoff.
Soilmate: SoilMate Leveler helps the farmer to optimally adjust the equipment on the tractor, which contributes to reduced use of chemical pesticides and overfertilization.
KilterKilter has developed AX-1, an autonomous robot that, using artificial intelligence and advanced precision spraying, reduces the use of pesticides by up to 95 percent.
N2 AppliedNitrogen enrichment of natural fertilizers that stops emissions into water and air, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30%
New Wave Agritech: Revolutionary weed control without the use of chemicals.

A joint effort for the future of the earth

Soil health is not just about the environment – it is also an economic and social necessity. A healthy soil means increased productivity for farmers, stronger food systems, and a resilient nature that is better equipped to meet future climate and environmental challenges.

The UN Day for Soil provides us with an important reminder that the Earth we stand on requires care and responsibility.
