The nitrate biosensors provide farmers with precise information about nitrate levels in the soil, making it possible to optimize fertilizer use and reduce the risk of contamination.
Precision agriculture with biosensors
Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plants and crops, but high concentrations of nitrates can be harmful to both humans and the environment. Overfertilization can cause excess nitrates to leach into groundwater, polluting both drinking water and ecosystems such as fjords, where fish life is threatened.

Significant cost savings for farmers
With accurate nitrate data from AgriSenze’s biosensor, farmers can optimize fertilizer use, which typically means reduced fertilizer use. This not only has positive environmental impacts, but can also mean significant financial savings for farmers. Fertilizer prices have increased by 300 percent since the beginning of 2022, and Zimmer estimates that farmers can reduce fertilizer costs by 30 to 50 percent using AgriSenze’s technology.
Reduces agriculture's environmental footprint
AgriSenze's biosensor not only helps reduce costs, but also reduces the environmental impact of agriculture. By preventing eutrophication, water pollution is reduced, which is of great importance for fish, tourism and public health. At the same time, it reduces the costs to society of cleaning up nitrogen pollution, which in Europe is estimated at between 70 and 320 billion euros annually.
