Fimex has made a name for itself this year Agrotechnics- fair in Lillestrøm. Aggrator StartUp– the company received here two awards for its innovative contributions to fruit and berry cultivation. The founder of Fimex, Jarl Olav Rugtveit, is also known as Norway's largest fruit farmer.

This could lead to more people choosing apples produced in Norway

Rugtveit was honored with the Sølvakset 2024 award for Smartfresh – a chemical that helps improve the storage quality of Norwegian apples. Smartfresh inhibits the ripening process by reducing the excretion of ethylene gas in apples. This keeps the apples fresh longer both in storage and in stores, strengthening the competitiveness of Norwegian fruit. The chemical, which has been approved by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, is not applied directly to the fruit but placed in buckets inside the cold storage facility.

– Norwegian apples lose their quality too quickly in the store, says Rugtveit.

Streamlines fruit production

In addition, Fimex received the award for the harvest machine Darwin Grecale, an Italian-developed machine that Fimex has helped to develop further. The machine is designed for gentle and efficient apple picking, reducing the need for labor while simplifying logistics through electronic registration.

After receiving the Agro-nyheit award at Agroteknikk, Fimex now looks forward to presenting Darwin Grecale at the fair in Bolzano, Italy.

Aggrator congratulates Fimex on the awards!
