Railway Robotics' Railship demonstrates 80% % more efficient inspection of the railway

Railway Robotics was established in 2021 by Kenneth Andersen and Jørgen Torgersen, after they chose to leave their jobs at Bane Nor to contribute to a more efficient and sustainable railway infrastructure. Since its inception, they have devoted themselves fully to developing Railchap; an autonomous robot that was born in a garage in Ås. Using advanced machine learning and computer vision, Railchap performs inspection and precision machining of rail switches, one of the railway’s most demanding and critical maintenance tasks.

Good results in the research project «Boots of Ballast»

Railchap enables the transition from calendar-based to predictive maintenance, where errors are detected and handled before they cause problems. The result is lower risk of human errors, fewer operational disruptions, and far better resource utilization.

Railway Robotics is currently conducting the innovation project Boats of Ballast In collaboration with Siemens and with support from Innovation Norway. Already at an early stage, the project is showing impressive results: Railchap enables up to 80 % more efficient inspections compared to traditional methods.

Sets a new standard for maintenance on the railway

Railship is an autonomous robot that can perform thousands of precise geometric measurements in a short time, without compromising on quality. Where humans would be exhausted by manual inspections, Railship maintains course, measurement after measurement.

– The advantage of using a robot is that a robot is very skilled at repetitive tasks. It can easily take 10,000 geometric measurements in one kilometer; a human would be completely exhausted doing the same thing. A month later, it can do exactly the same measurements and compare them to see if anything has moved, says Managing Director Jørgen Torgersen. TU

We are proud to have Railway Robotics in the Aggrator family, and look forward to following the journey further!
