Railway Robotics joins in Aggrator its incubator

The company was started by Kenneth Andersen and Jørgen Torgersen in 2021, after they both resigned from their jobs at Bane Nor to build a more efficient and sustainable railway infrastructure.

In recent years, they have dedicated themselves to developing Railchap, which was born in a garage in Ås. Railchap is a robot that uses advanced machine learning and computer vision to perform inspection and precision lubrication of switches. This is one of the most critical and time-consuming maintenance tasks on the railway.

Predictive maintenance: The solution of the future for the railway

With Railchap, Railway Robotics aims to develop predictive maintenance for the railway, an approach that makes it possible to identify faults before they occur. This saves both time and resources compared to calendar-based maintenance while reducing the risk of human error.

The advantage of using a robot is that a robot is very good at repeatable tasks. It can easily take 10,000 geometric measurements in a kilometer, a human would be completely exhausted doing the same thing. The following month it can take exactly the same measurements and compare to see if anything has moved.

The collaboration with Siemens Mobility

Railway Robotics has brought Siemens Mobility on board, who have seen the potential in Railchap and have chosen to invest in the technology. Railchap is now part of the research project “ Boots off Ballast ,” supported by the Research Council of Norway and Siemens Mobility. The collaboration has been crucial for Andersen and Torgersen:

An important contribution to a sustainable railway infrastructure
