Nordic Foodtech VC secures €40M for new fund – bets on research-based solutions for the future food system

Nordic Foodtech VC Norwegian has announced the first €40 million issuance in its second fund, with the goal of reaching €80 million. The fund invests in early-stage companies that solve challenges in agriculture and the food industry; from new protein sources and functional food to satellite-based insights into the environment and agriculture.

Partner Louise Heiberg emphasizes the importance of close collaboration with research communities in the Nordic and Baltic regions.

– The most significant solutions often spring from scientific breakthroughs. The close collaboration we have with research communities gives us good access to start-up companies with tools and technology the market has never seen before, says Heiberg. Silicon Canals.

The first fund from 2020 has invested in 18 companies, including Finnish ones Enifer og Image Space, Danish Chromologics, and Swedish Ironic Biotech.

The new fund will continue to lead pre-seed and seed investments in the Nordics and the Baltics, and co-invest in promising companies elsewhere in Europe, with investments ranging from €0.5 to 2 million.

Based in Helsinki and Copenhagen, Nordic Foodtech VC has a clear role in bringing research-based startups to global scale – and building a future food sector within the planetary boundaries.
