The Norwegian agritech company Underflow is developing an AI-based platform that is intended to help farmers detect disease, fungal attacks, drought stress, and other challenges in the fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company was established in July 2025 by Carsten Holter and addresses a specific problem in agriculture: that damage and disease are often detected too late. Once the challenges can be seen from the ground, crop losses can already be significant. At the same time, uncertainty can result in wider use of pesticides than necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using high-resolution drone imagery and proprietary AI models, Underflow aims to provide farmers with better decision-making tools through early warning, visual maps, and actionable recommendations all in one platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By identifying problem areas early, the company hopes to help farmers implement targeted measures where the need is greatest. The ambition is to both reduce costs and resource consumption while ensuring that the yield potential is maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 I grew up close to Norwegian farmers in Sarpsborg and saw the challenges up close from an early age. Through previous work analyzing the potential in agritech, I realized how great the need was and wanted to contribute to a more sustainable solution, says founder and CEO Carsten Holter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Betting on a scalable platform model<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Underflow is led by CEO Carsten Holter, CTO Johannes Skivdal and CFO Daniel Wiig Andersen. They build the business around an asset-light model where external drone pilots own and operate the drones, while the company provides technology, analysis, reporting and a platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The farmer orders a soil scan before a drone flies pre-programmed routes over the area. The images are then analyzed by Underflow\u2019s AI models that look for signs of disease, stress, and other abnormalities. The results are presented through maps, alerts, and recommended actions to help the farmer prioritize efforts where they have the greatest impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Validates the solution in Norwegian fields<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2026, Underflow is in active pilot operation with 12 grain farmers in Eastern Norway, Innlandet and Tr\u00f8ndelag. Through four planned scanning rounds during the season, the company collects training data and documents the effectiveness of the solution under real field conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the company, over 50 farmers and potential partners have shown interest in the solution. The next step is to expand the pilot program and lay the foundation for a commercial launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norwegian is also in dialogue with NIBIO, the Norwegian Agricultural Advisory Board (NLR), and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) regarding possible validation in Norwegian field conditions. One of the focus areas is the early detection of flea and poultry fly, two of the most challenging and regulated weed species in Norwegian grain production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company is supported by Innovation Norway and StartupLab, and this summer it is participating in the StartupLab Student Accelerator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will lay the foundation for further growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Aggrator will assist Underflow in determining the market size and identifying the most attractive customer segments. The collaboration will also help to further develop the business model and develop a commercialization strategy for the company\u2019s continued growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is to assist Underflow in transitioning from a pilot phase to a scalable business with a clear value proposition for farmers and other actors in the agricultural industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
